My Top 3 moments that showcase the future of Women in Sports

Happy April! Last month was Women's History Month so I will now be recapping my top three moments where women were finally given their well-deserved credit and recognition. As a sports lover and a woman aspiring a career in sports, it is so inspiring to see hardworking women use their talents and dedication to make big moves for all women in the industry. I will now explain my big three moments, in no particular order.

First, we have something very close to my heart. Jenny Cavnar becomes the first Woman play-by-play announcer in the MLB. As someone who has always wanted to be a PVP announcer for the Dodgers but was discouraged after seeing it is an all-male-dominated position, seeing this milestone truly opened my eyes.

Next, Long Beach State’s Alyssa Waite was named the head coach for the United States Junior girls golf team at the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan this summer. Long Beach State’s Women’s golf team is in my opinion is the most underrated team at LBSU. They are breaking records constantly and get no recognition when they are so deserving and should be a top 10 team. Seeing their coach being honored for her work and getting this position was so exciting and I can’t wait to see how the cup goes!

Last but not least, we have the moment that has truly defined the future of women’s sports. Caitlin Clark is a senior offensive guard who plays for the Iowa Hawkeyes and has created a legacy that is capturing the eyes of not only Women’s basketball fans but spectators around the world. She has recently become the all time NCAA Divison 1 men’s and women’s scoring leader. There are dozens of more records she has broken and has remained humble and has become such an inspiration for women everywhere.

Thank you for reading! I hope my top 3 Women in Sports moments have inspired you and also brought recognition to these women who are so deserving of their success. I also hope this sparks an interest in learning more about all of the current moves happening for women in the sports industry!

First post :)

Hi! My name is Kaitlyn Soto, I am currently 21 years old and in my third year of undergrad! I know I already have a lot of information on this website, but I wanted to do a little get-to-know-me to better your understanding of who I am!

For starters, I love sports! I have always been a huge baseball fan and grew up a huge football fan as well, but as I got older I realized my love for a large majority of sports. I grew up playing soccer and volleyball, and also danced for a few years, but took an interest in baseball because my younger brother played and my dad coached. I discovered the Los Angeles Dodgers and the 2013 team took my love for the sport to a new level. Ever since then, I knew I wanted to work in sports, especially after I was inspired by Los Angeles Dodgers Sports Journalist, Alanna Rizzo. I originally wanted to major in sports journalism, but after running my school and my church’s social media accounts, I decided to study Communication and PR and pursue a career in Sports Media. I now work as a Sports Marketing intern for several different sports and it has taught me a lot about adjusting and always brainstorming new ideas. I have learned so much here and can’t wait to use this experience to continue to grow in the sports industry

Although sports is my main passion, I do have a large interest in music! My dad is also at fault for my love for music, because ever since I was younger he introduced me to bands like Sublime, The Cure, Pink Floyd, and even artists like George Straight. My music taste expands across many genres like rock, country, reggae, indie, pop, rap, R&B, and jazz. This has also sparked my concert-going obsession. I have been to well over 50 concerts and have seen some of my favorite artists live and even met them a few times! I think it would also be so fun to do social media for musicians or record labels

Music and sports have always been such a big and important part of my life and have inspired my future career goals as well. I think it is important to take your interests and move forward with them professionally. I love working in an industry I enjoy and only hope to only go up from here!

Thank you for reading! See you soon!
